The NIE number (fiscal ID number) is required for most economic transactions in Spain and it is issued by the Police. To get this number will take around one month and an NIE number is required when you:
Buy or sell a property in Spain, apply for a business permit, apply for a mortgage or any other type of loan, open a bank account, pay your taxes, inherit assets in Spain, apply for a driving license in Spain or apply for an international driving license, to validate driving licenses issued in EU and non-EU countries within Spain, and to carry out many other transactions in Spain.
In general, this identification number will be requested from any financial entity you want to have dealings with.
How to apply for an NIE number:
Spanish law states very clearly that the person must apply for the documents in person. However, the Spanish law also clearly states that a legalised, Spanish power-of-attorney document enables any individual to be represented by another for all legal purposes in Spain (as long as it is declared as such within the power-of-attorney). Therefore through virtue of these combined laws, we are able to apply for a NIE number on your behalf without the need for you to be in Spain.
For this we will need from you:
- A completed application form. (We will send this to you)
- Power attorney granted only for the purpose of applying for Resident Permit or NIE numbers and the applicant’s passport details.
Once we have received your documents (POA and copies of passports – both legalised) the NIE number is obtained within 20 business days aproximately.
Our fees for this service will be €159 (per each NIE number).
